The town of Chintamani is two hours drive from Bangalore some 80km to be precise. Basically a town with a temple atop a hill (of instant and conspicuous view from the town) adjacent to the Eastern Ghats blessed with many water catchment areas, cooler than Bangalore, a large KSRTC bus stand with hospitable people.
It is difficult to trace the origin of this word Chintamani now in Chikkaballapur district but must have vedic roots and of sanskrit nomenclature. From Bangalore ahead of Hoskote on NH4 a turn towards the left is the road that leads to Madanapalle and few tens of kilometres ahead of H cross and Kaiwara cross comes the Chintamani bye-pass which leads to this cozy township with relatively higher population per capita of land.
Kailasgiri few kilometers away from the town on the Eastern Ghat mountains hosts Cave temples which is a popular tourist attraction and the local MLA is proactive in developing the entire township and its attractions. Kaiwara is also a place close by.
The hills found around this place must not be prey to developmental activities in a wanton way is a matter of concern for all. It must be preserved at all costs as the majesty and long term survival of Chintamani revolves around the water provided by these hills.
KSRTC should actively consider putting some Rajahamsa buses that ply between Bangalore and this township with advance reservation which will help commuters.
