Thrissur is to Kerala what Mysore is to Karnataka state. Possibly ruled directly by Monarchs for quite some time It combines an oriental nature with the modern and the whole town set around the Vadakanathan temple which is age-old.
Trichur is a modern Metropolis with a large population and could be bigger than Calicut in dimensions.It has a small KSRTC bus stand which is under renovation as of now.
I paid a visit to the GCE _T (Government College of Engineering Thrissur) commenced here in 1959.It is a very well designed institute with an imposing main building not very far from town and has a resemblance to Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.
I think the concept of REGIONAL ENGINEERING COLLEGES must be re-invented by the Government and seats given to students solely on the 12th standard marks without any written test.In such a case GCE-Thrissur would be a contender to become a REC in Kerala and such institutes must be ear-marked in every state to be up-graded into an REC .
