I meet Dinesh Nambiar in Mumbai (Bombay)

Dinesh Nambiar is the grandson of my Grandmothers sister and they live in Mulund Mumbai..I met him I think in 1993 for the first time and we spent some time together and he even coming to see me off the following day.

Both of us had a stroll over Mulund and the following day I went to his office in Nariman Point where he was working with Indian Express and having lunch at one of those eat-outs in nariman Point.Dinesh was very courteous and helpful.

That afternoon I went to Santa Cruz East and met my College mate Vikas Makhija at Reliance Industries.

There was another interesting coincidence.Dinesh knew very well Narayan Kumar Anantha who was my class mate at REC /NIT Calicut. The same evening Dinesh took me to the house of Kumar Narayan as he was also called.

I SPEAK TO KALLOL ROY OF BARC

I used to serve in Mumbai in 1999  in the area of  Enterprise solutions and my office being behind the Star TV Network in Andheri East and staying at a hotel in Juhu. I was conducting an interview to make some recruitments when a gentleman with some affiliation with BARC the Bhaba Atomic Research Center happenned to be on the list.I remembered that Kallol Roy who used to be my senior at college was at BARC and enquired if he knew Kallol and to my surprise knew him very well and got the residence number of Kallol.

I had forgotten about the matter but one Sunday afternoon decided to call him on the number from my office and lo Kallol was on the other side. Kallol never knew me all too well and I had some difficulty in permeating myself. Kallol Roy was in the Seventh Semester when I joined the Regional Engineering College Calicut. He used to be a person with a wide spectrum of academic interests and used to take part in debating and person with high motivation.

None the less we got talking for nearly an hour on the phone transcending many events during his and my stay at college and he had the gift of giving almost accurate dates of events. It was a very nice experience  talking to him at length..thereafter I have not had a chat with Kallol but came to know from some quarters he had risen to very high posts in BARC..May be he is headed to become a distinguished alumni of REC  NIT  Calicut.

Dr. P K MUKUNDAN OF CHERUKUNNU

In  1983  whn I was a student at  the erstwhile REC Calicut  my cousin from my father’s side Dr.P K Mukundan joined the Calicut Medical College to do his second MD at the Calicut Medical College.I remember meeting him the morning at the Calicut Medical College the day he joined his MD program.Incidentally he did his MBBS FROM Calicut Medical College and his first MD from the Vallabhai Chest Institute New Delhi. I used to meet him in the PG hostel of the Calicut Medical College often and would also meet some ofhis friends at the hostel few of whom were from Karnataka state. The wife of Dr.P K Mukundan is the neice of KPR Nambiar the Joint Managing Director of BPL.

For good or bad his MD at the Calicut Medical College went into rough weather with some deliberate attempts to fail him and he filing a case and finally winning it on being exonerated by the Courts and the MD degree awarded. It is sad that the system sometimes goes against though un-canningly on deserving individuals.

Recently I happened to meet him in Cannanore Kannur and he is a Professor of Medicine and even visits Mysore as an examiner.

There is an interesting anecdote. Somewhere in 1985 SV Giri  my batch mate at REC Calicut developed some rashes on his skin. This was appalling as it had spread over the whole body. From the hostel office of REC I spoke to Dr.Mukundan and Giri left that evening to the Calicut Medical College taking his reference. He was admitted there. The next morning I visited the Calicut Medical College and found him admitted in the ward.  No sooner Dr. Mukundan came to the ward and said there was nothing to worry and also conferred with the other doctors treating Giri. I think Giri was discharged the next morning. This was a help Dr. Mukundan did. In retrospect the rashes could have appeared because of some water or food related issue.

In many ways Dr.Mukundan is unique in the way he treats patients – less of complicated medicines and a subtle understanding of the disease. Such an approach is characteristic of his approach which has made him endearing to patients.

CHELLAMUTHU AT REC NIT CALICUT

Between 1980 and 1985  there was a student at REC Calicut by name Chellamuthu who was an ace basketball player even representing the Southern Zone. I suddenly happened to remember him for no particular reason. We used to meet often in the Basketball court and he used to even teach me some tips in  Turn Table -for which he was well known. He used to even talk other happenings in the Hostels.Being my senior he possibly left an year ahead of me from REC.

He was nearly six feet tall, stout and well built and was from Tamil Nadu. The last thing I heard about him is that He had joined some Govt. service in Tamil Nadu. Cheer up Chellamuthu..there is some one who still fondly remembers you and your skills at basket Ball.
