I  have written about Peenya Industrial Area earlier and many people from around the world must have had a look at it for the large conglomerate of  small scale sectors it has and has served as the back-bone of the economy of the city and the country for several decades now.The estate is a miracle in itself and I was personally associated with the minute aspects of the estate for many years.

In one such association I had the good fortune of  meeting and interacting with Rahul Masrekar who runs ACE CARBO-NITRIDERS which is in the heat treatment industry.I recently met up with him and was nice to see his enterprise having a much better strategic posture than the one I saw twenty years ago.The office staff were courteous to me and conducted me to his office.I even had a look at the plant working for few minutes and found a disciplined outfit.

Heat Treatment is an important component of any economy..by heat treatment the properties of materials change for the better and make it more valuable and the Economy in general need the large-scale support of such outfits.I  have seen heat treatment using gases and special electrical power equipment..some times high-power current devices that drive large current at very low voltages into charges.It is largely a metallurgical process and phenomena and is a speciality in itself. I must congratulate Rahul for having stuck to this field and progress in its various challenges.He services many formidable organisations in the country.

DHANYA TALKIES NEAR REC NIT CALICUT

I  had made mention that this Talkies near NIT REC Calicut is no longer functional and it made me sad. Dhanya Talkies contributed to the pangs and glory of students at that time. I was under an misguided conclusion that I had written something about this place  but only recently noted that I had not written an exclusive page for this place which we sometimes referred to as our Hollywood.

To those of you who know nothing about this talkies.  It is some 200 meters from  Kettangal on the  Mukkom road side. When we approach the road towards Mukkom it is on the right side.It is a typical talkies and not a full fledged theatre. Fifty percent of the area in the front for people to sit down and see the movie and the rear portion with benches. We students were always on the benches.On the approach road to this Talkies there were a couple of arrack shops.

There was a Matinee show , a First show , and a Second show. Our students very often could be seen in the Matinee and First shows. A Tamil film Tiruvillayadal was being screened here and Raghuvaran badly wanted to see the movie and asked me if I could accompany him which I gladly did. Many of our senior students were also present on that day.This film is basically a mythological film.

Seeing a movie in this Talkies was never a pre-ordained or planned affair.It just happens.  Many times I  used to be in Kettangal to buy something and people like  Gautam Hendre coming from the other side forcibly changed my course to see some Malayalam movie.Hindi and Malayalam movies were mostly shown.

The first movie I had seen at this place was some Prem Nazir film   KILUNGATHA CHANGALLAGAL..in 1982...second show....all of us ..i think seven of us made a quick decision in our room B 315 to see something at this talkies. We were so fleet footed that before long we were at the theatre and none of my cronies knew Malayalam and most of the time I was busy translating the dialogues for them.I think we also saw Great Gambler one afternoon.

The two key situations when we were at  Dhanya  were first the interval when some of us used to come out and the night used to be deathly quiet with no traffic on the road and an errie silence which was frightening and secondly the trudge back to the hostels which was sometimes moon-lit and on other occasions very dark and remote.

Friday nights were largely reserved for Dhanya. I remember a large contingent of us saw the movie ABDULLAH. , I remember even PVK Mohan who later studied at IIMB was also with us.It was a very well lit moon-lit night and a large contingent of us walking back to the hostels with lots of laughter and giggling is still vivid in my mind.The best part of Dhanya Talkies is that we treated it as if it were our own..a private resort where we all were very much at home.The best part of the experience at this talkies were the various comments students used to pass during the course of the movie.

Now it is a facility of the past,and the present and future generations at NIT, will never know what Dhanya Talkies was all about.The Talkies must have become an economic victim of changing circumstances. Good Bye to you my dear Talkies and thank you for all the fun laughter and smiles you brought on our tender faces and the climate of enchantment that you created and the scores of movies students must have seen at your place and there must be many all over India from Assam to J  and K.......to Rajastan and the entire stretch of the country who would still remember with nostalgia the feelings and moments they had  which once held the title "HOLLYWOOD OF REC".

COVID 19 THE NOVEL CORONA VIRUS CRISIS WORLD OVER

As I  write this passage the World is in the midst of a virus crisis which has claimed some two lakh lives and with some three million infected and every known and unknown habitats of the world are susceptible to this virus.It is an unprecedented event came totally un-announced and plundered the world putting it in total disarray. The United States as of now has faced more than FIFTY FIVE THOUSAND DEATHS tantamount to the lives lost in the Vietnam war over a ten year period Most of the deaths in New York..Some one lakh deaths in Europe with largest causality in Spain and  Italy followed by UK,France,Germany.Boris Johnson the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was also infected but survived due to apt medical attention.

As of now India has some 1000 deaths with 20,000 infections. Narendra Modi  the Prime Minister has been proactive and in the fore-front in battling this crisis with constant consultations and contact with people and Council of Ministers.The state of Kerala has done a exceptional job in containing the virus and also treating infected patients.Only 2 deaths and 80% recovery rate a stupendous job and credit must go to the Cheif Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan and health minister Smt. Shailaja.Kerala appears to have some 500 infected. Maharashtra,Gujarat,Madya Pradesh,Rajasthan and Delhi contribute to some 80% of Corona cases in India and resulting deaths.

The Corona Virus also called the Novel Corona Virus ...novel meaning a new form of Corona Virus originated in Wuhan in China and spread quickly around the world.The virus spreading largely due to social contacts or mingling with each other which is a casual way the disease spreads and a formal way through respiratory droplets of acute patients.The infected persons in many cases are asymptomatic which means they dont show symptoms though they are infected. SARS and EBOLA are some cousins of this virus but create disaster much faster. The disease appears to have three stages. Initially it starts with dry cough and some kind of abdominal pain...progressing into high fever and respiratory difficulties and finally into organ failure.Fatalities are more in the aged class say some 60 years and above.Presently it has no cure but seems to respond in some measure to Hydrochloroquin.In India as of now the curing rate is more than 20 percent a fairly good index but must improve. Plasma Therapy is being tested ..injecting the plasma of recovered patients  which is high in antibodies into patients who are in stage 2 of the disease which should lead to recovery.

One of the major responses uniformly around the World has been to implement lock-down which means every one stays at home and all commercial establishments closed. The Police of all countries imposed Curfew and punished people who came on to the streets..in places like Phillipines Police shot and killed offenders.Countries that implemented lock down earlir seem to enjoy some respite from the disease and is at manageable levels..India and NEW Zealand could be examples.

Specialists say the virus had its origin in WUHAN wet market where all forms of wild-life is sold for food.May be the blood of some wild-life must have had the virus and spread exponentially from Air travellers around the World. Could be....Wuhan to Dubai...Dubai to Europe and United States...and from Europe to the South American Continent and from Dubai to other pockets in Asia.

How could the World tackle this menace? No one knows for sure ! But some measures could be undertaken;

1.LOCK DOWN IS NOT AN ETERNAL SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM

2.SPRAY DISINFECTANTS WITH VIGOUR THROUGH ALL INFECTED AREAS AND AREAS LIKELY TO BE INFECTED. TARGET OF SOME 2000 LITERS OF DIS-INFECTANT PER DAY IN MAJOR CITIES DENYING AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE VIRUS TO THRIVE.

3.CREATE SMALL SPRAY BOTTLES WHICH ARE PORTABLE AND INDIVIDUALS COULD SPRAY THEM ON FACE MASKS .THEIR HANDS AND OTHER VULNERABLE AREAS REGULARLY.

4.SHOPS AND COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS MUST HAVE THEIR OWN SPRAY DEVICES AND DISINFECT THEIR PREMISES PERIODICALLY. SCIENTIFIC PEOPLE MUST SAY WHICH IS THE BEST DIS-INFECTANT FOR THE CORONA VIRUS.

5.USE OF FACE MASKS BY ALL IN PUBLIC AND DO SOCIAL DISTANCING IN PUBLIC

6.IN CASE SOCIAL DISTANCING IS IMPOSSIBLE IN CERTAIN SETTINGS USE GLOVES AND FULL FACE COVER AND SELF-DISINFECTING.

7.DO YOGA LIKE SARVANGASANA EVERY DAY WHICH COULD BUILD IMMUNITY TO THIS DISEASE AT AN INDIVIDUAL LEVEL.

8.WASH HANDS PERIODICALLY WITH SOAP.

9. IF SOME ONE HAS SYMPTOMS REPORT TO GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES AT ONCE.EARLY DETECTION CAN CURE.

10. HIGHLY INTEGRATED TREATMENT MANAGEMENT WITH MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS IN COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD SUGGESTING THE BEST TREATMENT METHODOLOGY.
