My sad experience with the Indian Railways

I had a very bad experience with the Indian Railways in 1999...I had booked to travel to Kozhikode from  Bangalore by the Island express which had only one compartment to Mangalore that traverses via Kozhikode. I was mis informed that the only compartment was the first bogie and I also saw Mangalore written on it. My son Ganesh was barely two years old...one can imagine..Only after the train commenced the journey does the TT tell me that it is not the first compartment but the last one...and one can imagine the confusion. With this little boy clasped in our hand we had to board the last compartment when the train stopped for a brief while at Hosur.

Who is responsible for such confusion ?   Proper Information oficers must be placed by the Railways that all kinds of right inputs are provided to passengers.

RIMS Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies

Some time back I visited RIMS Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies which is on New Bel Road closer to the BEL factory an institute for Management Studies commenced  a dozen years ago. It was initially started as a small outfit and then came up in the present location.

What I saw basically was a well ordained outfit that truly left me spell bound...adequate number of floors with good class rooms and wi-fi with offices for staff both teaching and non teaching in right measure. I even happened to be at the top of the building where from the view of the city around is breath-taking.

I have always felt that Management Education is different from many other kinds of Education systems largely because the entire subject is open ended in nature which strictly means the combined areas of Management and Business is not always bound by strict domains and absolute truths and facts but is an open science to be examined and understood in a befitting way and the science facing a metamorphosis every now and then. Most social sciences are of this nature and Management education is no exception..which simply means the more regular forms of education of being bound by a syllabus and exam being the be-all and end-all of the Education process is largely limited in the managerial context and the Education environment must indoctrinate the students largely both the tangible and the logical.

I have known Dr. Pattabhiram for many years now who put up RIMS under the overall aegis of the M S RAMAIAH FOUNDATION adheres in full measure to the doctrine that any Faculty must deliver and do absolute justice to the Student in the class and he had zero tolerance to this policy even when he was active at MSRIM.

During my visit to RIMS it was nice to have a rendezvous with my old colleagues and friends like
Mr. Sivadas Nambiar , Dr. Y Rajaram , Mr. Anil Gowda and few others.

How to get to this institute? Very Simple !From Mekhri circle come to Sadashivanagar police station and enter New BEL Road on which CPRI is located.Go straight and cross the traffic point and ahead on the left you will see Devasandra bus stop and few metres ahead on the left is RIMS.

May such institutes thrive that give and focus on giving absolute value to the student community.

OLD K R PURAM BRIDGE

Recently I saw the old bridge being demolished. The above is an artist's impression of the old bridge made of limestone compositions built some where in the 1860's. This bridge has been out of service since 2000 AD  and a new cable bridge created after some four years of construction.

The picture above was drawn by me.

The ITI Zoo

Inside the ITI complex there is a Zoo..or at-least it used to be called one. I was enticed into visiting it as a student at school. One afternoon some friends of mine accosted me into believing there was a full time Zoo inside the ITI complex about which I was unaware of....Largely excited about visiting a Zoo at that age embarked upon a mis adventure of missing half day classes at school with the aim of seeing the Zoo.

This Zoo what my cronies were talking about was a thick set of vegetation adjacent to the temple near ITI circle and only had a couple of jackals in few enclosures and nothing more and could be a not so habitable place for a lad...though the entire place looked well-looked-after. Suddenly I found myself in the predicament of whiling away some five hours at a place which was anything but a Zoo.

Basically I was mis led into an adventure that too bunking school for one afternoon. Though there may not be anything very serious about this anecdote there is a lesson in it for Parents and young kids alike around the World ..the possibility of being mis led into something especially during fledgling years only to feel aghast about later..a victim of lack of experience and such instances can have rarely some kind of more serious consequences. Parents must be careful and protect their wards from mischief mongers whose victim some school going child could become a victim of..though prima facie the error would point to a kid who forays into such adventures for no primary fault of his.

The ITI Park

Somewhere in the heart of ITI is the ITI park a very well designed and maintained outfit and a jewel of the township. The entire park would be the size of a football field a part of it called the Children's Park.

The ITI park in many ways was maintained on International lines and would over-look the Chairman;s residence the Chairman's house itself having another park of its own. For many years the ITI park housed many kinds of birds and small animals in enclosures and also had a central dome like structure. For many years there used to be a museum inside the park.

One of the unique features of the ITI park was that it housed many kinds of plants and trees and had a well designed fountain system.

Who ever conceived and designed this park deserves praise and veneration that he thought it befitting to put up such a highly advanced green-spot within an industrial empire.
