Palghat is traditionally and concurrently an important hub in Southern India in the state of Kerala.The western Ghat Mountain ranges which is un-relenting gives a thirty kilometer gap at this place called the Palghat gap and has been one of the only routes towards the Arabian sea by-passing the Sahyadri ranges (Western Ghat Mountains) and hence the strategic significance of Palghat.Coimbatore is another town close to Palghat.
Palghat is some eight hours journey from Bangalore via Salem but there are other approach routes to this place. Basically a silent town with a decent state bus stand and budget hotels around. The Palghat fort is in the town some 15 acre area with fort walls and a moat around the fort. Various rulers have had sway over this fort from time to time.
Malampuzha Dam is some half an hour drive fromPalghat and close to this dam is the NSS college of Engineering.The Malampuzha dam has a rope-way which is an attraction to tourists. Please make all adequate preparations before getting on the rope-way.
