CREATING A HIGH SPEED RAILWAY BACK-BONE IN INDIA
There is a scope and need for a high-speed railway network in India. I cannot understand why we lagged behind on this front from the rest of the World.
The average speed on our highways could be some 80kmph and the average speed on our railway networks would be almost the same. From the era of steam engines to electric traction of today the average speed over these many decades may have increased by some 20kmph which is not encouraging considering that Steam engines also could ply at some 80kmph.
We in India should have done something on this front some decades ago to have trains today that travel at 300kmph which exist in neighbouring countries like China and many other countries in the West. What prevented us from embarking on such a system may have its own reasons. One of the reasons could be the rapid growth of the Aviation sector where Air-Traffic in India could be seen as busy as in many other countries.
But a rapid rail system with at least an average speed of 250kmph must be created within a maximun ten years horizon. The building or erection of such a system must be fast and must be totally dedicated corridor with links to existing rail and road infrastructure.
There could be a north-south corridor which links a city like Bengaluru (Bangalore) with New Delhi with travel time of not more than eight hours and a East-West corridor that links city like Mumbai with Hyderabad. What kind of an appropriate technology will enable such a system must be worked out.
Various States in the country must take the responsibility of execution of such a system within their territory with overall Central supervision and the whole thing integrated to create such a National system.

THE KENGERI RAILWAY STATION IN BENGALURU BANGALORE
The KENGERI railway station is a key railway station on the outskirts of the city of Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore corridor ...key in the sense many trains to various destinations across the country that emanate from Mysore pass through this station.
It is basically a four platform station relatively small in size.
The access to this station could be termed difficult. From the KENGERI BUS TERMINAL METRO STATION moffusil buses over a few kilometers ride take you to this station Bus-Stop from where people have to walk some fifty meters.
The VANDEBHARAT express does not stop here and all other trains do. This would be an ideal railway station for people travelling towards MYSORE as they can avoid the un-certainities faced at the KSR main Railway Terminus.
